Career FAQ

We’ve provided some guidance on applying for a role at Summerfall Studios.

Where are jobs advertised?
Our job opportunities are advertised on this website and cross-posted on Twitter and Facebook.

What should my art portfolio look like?
Whether your portfolio includes the required content or not isn’t the highest priority—we encourage you to apply anyway. Ultimately, your portfolio should demonstrate your strengths and identity as an artist, and that’s more important than anything else.

Your portfolio should showcase pieces that demonstrate your suitability for the project: strong linework, use of colour, and expressive characters.

Character consistency across multiple pieces is highly beneficial.

You must be willing to replicate work and processes from your portfolio, so include pieces that reflect your current experience level and leave out the ones you disliked doing.

What experience level are you looking for?

We are open to all experience levels, so long as you can demonstrate your suitability for the project.

What should be in my cover letter?

It’s important that you succinctly demonstrate your understanding of Summerfall Studios and Stray Gods, and why you’re interested in working with us.

Your cover letter is a chance to give us a sense of who you are as a person, what you care about, and what you enjoy. It is an introduction. Focus more on who you are and avoid rehashing your qualifications or prior roles—that’s what your resume is for.

You don’t need to tell us that you’re passionate about games. We know! You’re applying for a job in games.

What should my resume include?

Any relevant experience you have, paid or unpaid.

Be specific as to what you achieved in your roles—e.g. created expression sheets for 17 characters; or illustrated 8 cohesive pieces in a two-month period.

Absolutely tell us of your volunteer or fan work, if applicable.

Do I need to have shipped a game/published a comic/been a part of an animation studio?

No. If you haven’t shipped anything professionally, we encourage you to show us other projects you’ve completed from end-to-end. What we’re mostly looking for is the ability to stick with a project, the drive to see it through, and a proactive attitude.

Don’t worry too much about sounding professional. Sound like you. We want to hear your voice, your story, your unique perspective.
